Chicken Fried Burgers

Kris was a little under the weather so I made dinner. This is a recipe I haven’t tried before but it is one we have decided to keep in rotation. A chicken fried burger patty was the way to go.

Chicken Fried Burger Recipe

Ingredients

For the Burger:

  • 1 pound ground beef

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1 teaspoon onion powder

  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

  • ½ cup breadcrumbs or flour

  • 1 egg, beaten

  • 4 burger buns

  • Lettuce, tomato, and pickles (for garnish)

For the Breading:

  • 1 cup buttermilk (whole milk works as well)

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)

  • Oil for frying

Instructions

1. Prepare the Chicken Patties:

In a large bowl, combine the ground burger, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.

2. Form the Patties:

Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into burger patties. Dip each patty in the beaten egg, then coat with breadcrumbs or flour. Set aside in the refrigerator to set.

3. Prepare for Frying:

In a shallow dish, pour the buttermilk. In another dish, mix together the flour and cayenne pepper (if using).

4. Bread the Patties:

Dip each breadcrumb-coated patty into the buttermilk, letting excess drip off. Then, coat in the seasoned flour, pressing lightly to ensure the flour adheres.

5. Fry the Patties:

In a large skillet, heat about ½ inch of oil over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, carefully place the patties in the skillet. Fry until golden brown and cooked through, about 4-5 minutes per side. Remove and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.

6. Assemble the Burger:

Toast the burger buns if desired. Place a crispy chicken fried beef patty on the bottom half of each bun. Top with lettuce, tomato, and pickles. Add the top half of the bun.

7. Serve:

Enjoy your chicken fried burger with your favorite sides, like fries or a salad.

Happy cooking!
